Orleans is the home to the Harlan County Museum. It is located at Maple Street and Harlan Avenue. It is open from May 20 - November 1 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
There are four Historical Buildings at the site: A School 1893, A Log Cabin 1877, A Jailhouse 1879 and the Museum. The Harlan County Museum houses a large, interesting collection of Native American and Pioneer Artifacts. There is no entry fee; Donations are appreciated.
The Preston Library located at 500 South Orleans Avenue, in the center of the park was built in 1917 by Mr. Preston to honor the memory of his wife, Cordella Bennet. It is one of the finest small town libraries in the state. It is open Monday 3:00pm-8:00pm, Tuesday 9:00am-12:00, Wednesday and Thursday 3:00pm-6:00pm and Saturday 9:00am-12:00.
St. Mary's Catholic Church located at 300 North Orleans Avenue was built in 1889. The architecture and stained glass windows are magnificent. The stones were hauled by wagon from a quarry in Kansas.
