FISHING is fantastic in the Republican River which is located south of town and the Harlan Reservoir. There are catfish, walleye, bass, pike, crappie and more. There are over five large tournaments each year. Contact INN Orleans for more information.
HUNTING in the area is also good for hunting deer, wild turkey, pheasant, and quail. Contact Nebraska Game & Parks for information concerning licensing and dates.
BIRDING is very popular in this area. Being within the North American central flyway for migrating birds, you can sight Bald and Golden Eagles in January and Duck and Geese into March. The White Pelican watch is from the first of March to the middle of April. Occasional sightings have been made of a Great Whooping Crane. The Songbird Migration runs from the first of April to the middle of May. Over 300 bird species have been identified in this area.
SWIMMING is always a fun activity and a way to meet some of the local residents. The Orleans Swimming Pool is located on the corner of Maple Street and Harlan Avenue. It is open from Memorial Weekend to Labor Day. It features a high diving board, a low board, a slide and a baby pool.
